Different Types of Fragrances Demystified

When choosing a fragrance, whether as part of a fragrance gift set or not, have you ever been confused by the way the perfume is described? There are a variety of fragrance types. The reason for this confusion is our love of trying to shorten and simplify things. In the case of fragrances, it refers to just how pure the fragrance content actually is. The different types are explained below.

Perfume extract. It represents the purest form of fragrance that money can buy. It contains typically 20% (but can be anywhere between 15 and 40%). And of course that means you will pay the highest price for it. The are the purest extract that you can buy, with the strongest scent. This fragrance type has a longer lasting scnet than others. Be careful not to confuse  with Eau de Parfum, which is typically still strong but at a lesser concentration than perfume, which is limited to 10 - 20% (typically 15%) aromatic compounds.

Eau de Toilette. This type of fragrance typically employs 10% (although it can be n the range of 5 - 15%) aromoatic compounds. It is at a price kinder to the pocket while providing a strong scent. Eau de Toilette is the perfect trade off between intensity of scent and affordability.

Eau de Cologne. This is at the budget end, containing 3 - 8% (typically 5%) aromatic compounds. Its scent is not as strong as perfume or Eau de Toilette. And the scent will not last as long either. Eau de Cologne is also typically used to describe those fragrances that lack base notes.

It’s great for people that like to smell good after freshening up or shaving. The concentration is 1 -3%. These make great gifts for the adolescent teen in their early years.

Consider these things when considering perfume gift sets. Perfume is a great option for someone that you are close to. If you are buying for someone you are quite fond of, then go for Eau de Parfum. For everyone else, and especially adolescents in their early teen years, you may wish to go for an Eau de Cologne perfume gift set.
