Blast Those Love Handles Away For Good
Friday, January 29th, 2010What an irony to name them love handles, isn’t it? Will anything they stand for make you love them in any way? In particular for many men the love handles are the unsightly chunks of fat present at the sides, right above the hips. They can be tricky to remove without the right techniques, but let’s look at a few strategies to say good bye to them once and for all!

In reality, it’s not feasible to make flab in one particular area only disappear from your body. In order to have results for one spot, what you need to do is target all your fat. The good news is that some exercises will further refine the place after you get rid of that fat. To put it briefly, at least three times a week, but ideally five times, you should go for some cardio, which will increase your metabolism. Aerobics as well as a good run or swim will help you consume a whopping four hundred calories in one hour.
Next on the priority list is watching what you eat. It is very simple: to slim down, you should take in a smaller number of calories than you burn. This is known as a deficit of calories. This in combination with the cardio workouts mentioned above give you a fast approach to get results.
Food swaps are recommended to help you transition to healthier eating habits. This simply means instead of having one type of food, swap it for something else. Therefore, snacking on fruit and vegetables would be the desirable alternative when you have an urge for crisps, cookies or chocolate. This way you will be eating healthful meals before you even know it.
After you have started to reduce your body weight, combine it with some of the exercises as follows:
Leg flutters
With this exercise, you will strengthen the back that will help support the muscles you develop in front. Start with your back on the floor and your head lifted to a small extent. Keep your arms to your sides. Raise your knees and feet off the floor and for 20 seconds, then ‘flutter’ your legs as fast as your can.
Twist crunches
These little workouts that can be compared to regular crunches are a wonderful means of shaping up those love handles. Lie on the floor again and with your hands behind your head (keep your head off the floor) and legs bent, twist using the midsection to the right whilst moving your left elbow towards the right knee. Once there breathe while you count to 3, then come back to the floor. Continue for the other side and aim to do 25 of these.
Standing trunk twists
For fat loss and muscle toning, standing trunk twists manages to do both things. Take a very wide stance making sure your legs and torso are stable, then turn to the left. After you do the same for the other side, work towards 100 repetitions.

Tae Bo
If you are seeking to tone the sides of your abdomen Tae Bo is the ideal choice, giving you the opportunity for good cardio exercise as well. All the twisting and turning that go along with the constant movement to kick and punch aim not only at your obliques, but also to the overall fat on your body. If you don’t want to attend a live class, there are plenty of DVD’s that you can choose from.
Weight Training
Are you familiar with how weight training can contribute to fat loss by stimulating an increase in metabolism? So working on your six pack muscles with weights will have the added advantage of a good cardio too!
Just a few weeks or so of consistent exercise - 30 minutes to one hour, trice or more a week - and healthy eating as directed above are sure to bring you the desired effects.
Of course, since different people don’t have the same lifestyles, eating habits or even slimming needs, the time it will take to remove love handles will also differ. While at times the weight loss is fast, it tends to become slower as the workout, if kept at the same intensity, fails to challenge the body to the same extent. If you come across this problem, you can sort it out by either intensifying your workouts, eating more protein foods or minimizing consumption of fats.
Generally speaking, however, it’s not as hard as you imagined to get rid of your love handles once and for all, and it’s something that really deserves your investment of time and commitment. Your trimmed looks and added self confidence will be self evident.
