I don’t know a thing about you, but I’ll bet that in youth soccer drills, the very basis of a game is its defense. When the score in a game is 0-0, it denotes defense played flawlessly by both the sides.

Yet, in kids soccer drills, there are two characteristics of winning a game. One is when an excellent defense is displayed. And the second is by having a great offense that has the capacity to overcome the other team’s defense.

Your players will not be able to score if they cannot acquire the ball. Some coaches follow the practice of training their kids in just one aspect; offense or defense. But, a player must be given complete training in both playing defense when the ball is in other person’s custody and offense when it is with him or her.

Those players who let go of the ball in youth soccer practice should be the ones who chase the ball. This is very important and makes sense because the one who loses the ball is nearest to the ball. As a result, this player should try to put pressure on the one who has the possession of the ball now.

Youth Soccer Drills

In other words, he must try to get the ball back as quickly as he can. This will also give an opportunity to his co-players to recover and get into their defensive positions. This will not allow the player in the opposite team to make a free run on the field with the ball.

Players can be made to learn these skills by following the given techniques;

Immediate chase: When this is effectively done in youth soccer drills, it puts pressure on the opponent from all the sides. And it ultimately causes him or her to make a bad pass or lose the possession of the ball.

Fall back and delay: To achieve this, it is a must that the remaining team members fall back, and challenge the opponent with the ball and delay him or her from getting into their team’s goal area.

As the most risky places on the field is the center, you must instruct your players to make the opponent run towards the touchline. This has the effect of the player losing the mobility to make a pass and also move in different directions.

Arc of Concentration: When we talk of scoring, the Arc of Concentration is the riskiest area. Maximum number of goals is scored by players in the arc of concentration. So it’s critical to teach the players in youth soccer coaching to focus on taking the ball outside this area.

This arc is right ahead of the goal. It begins from one corner post of the goal and goes all the way through the corner of the goal box and on to the touchline. The chances of a goal being scored are high when the ball is in this area.

Youth Soccer Drills:Discover The Art Of Heading

Have you ever imagined how the use of the head can be an effective way of redirecting the ball when it is still in the air? Doing this skill in youth soccer drills is particularly safe when it is carried out with care and caution.

Before you begin with training the players in the skill of heading, deflate the ball a bit especially when they are doing it the first time. For this, let some air out of the ball and make it soft so that players find it easy to play with. Before I get down to the details of kids soccer drills on heading, let me share with you the basics of this skill that players need to be taught first.

When the ball is still in the air, the players should move along the ball for the reason that their body should directly in front of the ball when they face it. Players should learn to maintain a clear view of the ball all the way in until it thumps their forehead.

Your players must recognize the importance of continuously looking at the ball whether it coming to them to going away from them. It they don’t know which way the ball is going or coming from, they risk getting hurt. In youth soccer practice, players should be taught to strike the ball with the top-front area of the forehead instead of the temples or crown of the head.

Youth Soccer Drills

A large number of youth soccer drills call attention to the movement involved in correctly handling the ball. Two of these have been discussed for your benefit and are as follows;

Sitting and Knees: Performing this drill in youth soccer coaching requires two players and one ball. One player needs to sit on the ground with the legs stretched out in the front. The second player will stand directly in front of the first one and throw the ball really low towards him or her. The idea is to throw the ball short so that the one heading it has to move forward to strike the ball.

Repeat this activity with one player positioned with both knees on the ground. Now, the player will have to move forward to actually shoot the ball. This drill is useful in teaching the players to use their head in guiding the ball.

Head out of Hands: You will need cones and a ball for each player in this drill. It needs the players to hold the ball with their hands and then throw it out by heading it. They should be taught to move their head to the ball and not move the ball to their head.

The cones can help the players learn heading to a particular location. The players learn the techniques to head the ball accurately and using their head.

You may not be with me on this but even the listen to me. In kids soccer drills, there is a great difference in the tricks adopted for kids and young players in college. Because the kids are exposed to everything for the first time and young players, on the other hand young players have experienced this many times before.

But, there are certain methods that can be used in soccer drills for kids which will help them become exceptional soccer players. It’s a known fact that kids ought to have lots and lots of fun in the game, in order to make them love the game. The moment this interest is lost, it becomes a burden for them. The kids feel stressed and start thinking of doing away with the sport. Remain patient and just let the kids be themselves.

Kids Soccer Drills: How To warm Up Correctly

In kids soccer drills, it’s surprising that warm up before playing is considered unimportant. It is something that being a coach, I would want to stress that warming up is obligatory and an important practice to lead the team towards a better start of the day. This issue is conveniently ignored as unimportant by the coaches in youth soccer drills. The consequences are then faced by the players when they suffer injuries in training.

This article gives you some nice tips on how to get the team warmed up. Teach the kids to include all the body movements that allow all muscles in the body to get worked up. This is the right way to wake up the entire nervous system. Doing things fast can lead to cramps or stiffness in the muscles.

Tip 1: Have the players jog for about 5-7 minutes initially. It is highly recommended to start with a light jog and then eventually sprint. Check that the pulse rate in this reaches 120 beats per minute. But, slow improvement is better. This should be followed by players moving their legs backward and forward for approximately 10 minutes each. Lastly, have them actively stretch their body over 20 yards.

Tip 2: When we talk about this active stretching over 20 yards, a few warm up exercises of its own must go along with it. For example, have your players skip back and forth. Also teach your players to do cross stepping. Also teach them high-knee carioca. These must be executed as if sprinting.

Backward run is also a highly effective warm up drill in soccer drills for kids. Still, in order to perform it, the proper way to do it is to jerk up the heels to the butt. It’s actually tough to practice it like this but there’s no choice as it’s the single most and right way of doing it.

Tip 3: There are other essential warm up exercises in kids soccer drills that build up the momentum to the actual session. You can direct your players to play with circles and hoops. These give an added element to the skipping exercises. You can also make them cross-over skip. Although a little advanced, Quick Hip Swings is also a very effective and tested method that warms up the body a great deal.

Then you can tell your players to do long shuffles with rotations in the middle. The players should be made to practice moving their legs backward and forward. This is a highly effective and useful body toning activity. High leg forwards and backward is just as efficient in toning the body.

Tip 4: Stretching should be adequate and correctly executed. For the legs, stretch hinging works the best. Make sure all players have worked out their quadriceps, calves, hamstring, and groin without fail. It is stretching that helps in increasing the range of muscles together with preventing any injury to the player.

Also ensure that in soccer drills for youth, kids are discouraged from overdoing anything. They have the tendency to get carried away in excitement and injure themselves as a result.
